Passage

The creation of the Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company marked a spectacular development in the history of the freedom movement. Eager to revive the naval tradition of the Tamils to provide practical training in ship building to the people and determined to challenge the British Monopoly of maritime traffic, V.O. Chidambaram announced his decision in 1906 at Shiyali to create a Navigation Company.
